Queensland

Queensland is a large state dominating the northeastern corner of Australia. It is a rich agricultural area, providing the nation with bananas and citrus fruits. The coastline is one of the most famous in the world, as many come to enjoy not only the warm waters, but to visit the Great Barrier Reef. The capital city, Brisbane, is home to about 1.6 million people.

The Queensland team is led by Tony & Marsha Woods, who have been serving in Australia for 10 years. Tony was born 30 January, 1948 in Fort Worth, Texas, but moved to Colorado at 14, whereupon he had to give up his Texas citizenship since his wife-to-be Marsha wouldn’t marry a Texan. Marsha is a born and bred Colorado girl from Evergreen

They were married August 1st, 1969. Children include Trevor, who died at age 15 of leukemia, Nathan and Nicki. Kylie is the newest addition to the Woods clan, having married Nathan on October 14th, 2006.

Nathan is a graduate of Australia’s Baptist seminary, Morling College, and works in Sydney as a professional carer, with an eye toward full-time Christian ministry as soon as the Lord allows.

Nicki is a high school junior, living with her folks in Gold Coast, Australia, and has just authored a book about her life as a Russian orphan. It’s called A Hope and a Future, and is available at Amazon.com. Search by title or by "Marsha Woods" (her legal name).

Tony has worn many hats, working as a forest ranger, ambulance driver, school teacher, and since 1978 as a career missionary for the International Mission Board. Twenty years were devoted to Japan, with short stints in Hong Kong, Ethiopia and since 1998, Australia. He and Marsha also served two years as Missionary Journeymen in Zambia, and one year as Baptist volunteers in Liberia.

Tony is also the author of The Road Rising, a one year devotional/novel, its sequel, Leaving the Trail, a small group Bible study called On the Road with John and Looking for a Lamb, a look at Christian grief recovery.

Together with Marsha, they are responsible for bringing the Gospel message to Japanese living outside Japan, particularly along Australia’s Gold Coast.
