AIM for Tasmania
It is vitally important to know where you are going--to have a clear sense of direction in life. Jesus has given His followers no doubt about what is most important in life. He said that our most important responsibilities were to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart...and soul...and mind" and to "Love your neighbour as yourself" (Matt. 22.37,39). In concluding His ministry He commissioned us to "Go and make disciples of all nations...teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matt. 28.19). These commands, commonly known as the Great Commandment and the Great Commission, represent the core of Jesus' teachings and the essence of God's will for His people. These great challenges give us clear direction, giving us a clear "aim" which can be summed up very simply:
- Accountability - the challenge to strengthen ourselves and our relationships with one another
- Intimacy With God - the challenge to deepen our connection with God
- Multiplication - the challenge to broaden our influence in the world
Essentially, AIM provides us with a summary of our reponsibilities to God as well as a basic definition of the church. Every expression of the Kingdom of God, from the largest megachurch right down to the smallest group of "two or three," should continually strive toward these 3 things and to keep them in balance. The result will be healthy, reproducing disciples who join together to form healthy, reproducing churches.
